It might be a little too light-duty for your machine (not familiar with
an X3), but I've been quite pleased with the "Tormach Tolling System".

Basically it uses a 3/4" straight shank with a locating ring that comes
up against the spindle nose to give a repeatable Z. When the 3/4"
collet tightens, it draws the ring tight against the spindle nose.
They have collets for R8 and MT3 spindles.

I was running parts the other evening on my Shoptask machine, and was
getting 30 to 35 seconds chip-to-chip for totally manual toolchanges.

I didn't like the pricing on the Tormach ER collet chucks, but I ran
across another supplier who has nice chucks with 3/4" shanks at very
good prices. I got a couple of these and added my own locating rings:

I bored the rings and turned the locating face in one chucking, then
shrunk them onto the shanks before turning the OD.

My collection of TTS tooling (for now - I'm planning to get a couple
more collet chucks in the not-to-distant future):

The two on the left are from Mari Tool with my rings, he other four are
from Tormach.

I really like the fact that you can simply put a locating ring on
anything that has a 3/4" straight shank and use it.
