Okay, another lesson learned: check your connections first. The serial  
pins weren't locked in there sockets. RX worked but TX didn't. At some  
unpredictable moments RX didn't work either. This was a very easy fix.
Instead of checking the connections I wrote a python program to check  
the serial port and if it would work with the arduino. Well, it did  
sometimes, but sometimes it didn't, but always it was only 1 way  
traffic. I figured it was because of my quick and dirty python and  
arduino programs. I should have started with the hardware checks.
