The Flash was darn slow both booting and starting up the EMC.  Unlike
you though I used a default install of Ubuntu to it.  That is the only
reason.  I'm reasonably certain that it can be made to work with some
pruning and simplified boot routines.

I don't see that thermal BIOS parameter at all here.  Sounds like you
found the issue though.  It must have to do with the fanless version.  I
turn off things like audio and legacy stuff because that gets in the way
of rtai.  I don't have the board hooked up just now so can't see the
version.
