If you zero with the "home" function, then your machine will still be 
homed.  What homing means varies from machine to machine, but setting a 
home reference point accomplishes the same function regardless of 
whether you have switches, encoders with index, or what-have-you.

I would like to see this as an ini-file setting so integrators can 
choose for themselves, but I see the addition of the functionality as a 
plus, not a minus.
