There are some new options in 2.3 for tool change moves. One is the ability to pull the quill up (move Z to machine zero) before the (optional) coordinated move to the tool change position. http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/config_ini_config.html My favorite for my lathe is TOOL_CHANGE_AT_G30. I can move Z so all the tools on the turret clear the work, issue G30.1 to teach it the new G30 position, and then tool changes happen there.
