hi everybody,

I started yesterday working with EMC2, seems to be a real great software.
Installation on top of Xubuntu hardy was very smoothly using your installation
script. Stepper motors are already moving.

After studying some threads here, I created also my first kinematic module
using comp. Very nice.

Now there is a little challenge where I would like to have your advice. The
machine to control is a hot wire cutting machine. It needs two pairs of axis
with bipod kinematic each and one turntable. My plan is to use X,Y and U,V for
the bipods and A for the turntable.

In the ini file I write COORDINATES X,Y,U,V,A. In AXIS, I see, when I switch to
"world" view the order X,Y,A,U,V. Seems axis don't care in which order I write
the axis in ini. Thats a minor problem. More important: Up to now I was not
able to "skip" joints. I must write AXES = 8, and I see in joint view axes 0-7
as position display, but axis 0,1,3,U,V (note:U,V shall read 6,7) selectable in
manual control. The system seems to know that I only use these joints, but
still displays position for all axis. And itexpects ALL axis to be homed. But I
cannot home what is not selectable. Also there is some confusion with axis U,V
( I have still the trivkin active), seems not assigned to joints 6,7.

In another thread, I read that joints 3-5 are somehow angular, all other
linear. Is that still true ? or are they absolutely equal ? How would you
assign axis ?

I hope this was not too much confusing. maybe someone can help a little.

Gerd
