Hi,

Has anyone looked at the SoftDMC for the m5i20 as an easy way to
experiment with an embedded motion controller? My casual reading of the
manual convinces me that it might do the job. It does lack arc moves
so one would have to pt to pt them.

The hope here is that this might spur development of an emc port of
the real-time to FPGA with greater speed and hopefully independence
from rtai or other
rt adaptations. If indeed this is possible then we could run with a
non-patched Ubuntu which might ease installation woes. Not that
installation is
a major issue.

The speed of an FPGA implementation might allow us to add features
that are not now practical. My guess is that FPGA's are only going to
get faster, larger and cheaper all of which drive implementation of
new features.

Just had to rattle the cage. ;-)
