>From a brief Google search, it looks like there may be some proprietary parts. It is very likely that EMC2 can run your machine, but how much of the existing machine you can reuse, will depend on your electronics skills and patience. My guess is that you will be able to reuse the axis motors, power supplies, what appears to be a mains relay and spindle relay card. You may be able to re-use the axis motor driver boards, but considering the number of wires going to the cards they may not be standard. For EMC2, the drivers need to have step and direction, PWM or analog inputs. If you can closeups of the driver cards, someone may be able to figure out how they might work. I suspect the controller card does the motion control and if it connects to a PC, the PC is a display and user interface. The PC passes commands to the controller, which then plans and queues the motion output to the motors. EMC2 does the interface and the motion control, so the controller card is not needed and not compatible. Another issue that came up in the search was that the system came with CAM software, I wonder if it would be worth your while to try to use the system as is? My guess so far, to use EMC2, you will need to find a PC with a fair amount of RAM and will pass a latency test: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?Latency-Test , a PCI parallel port card, a parallel port buffer/isolator/breakout board, and stepper drives that match the axis motor specs and axis motor power supply output. This should be a fun project. I look forward to seeing your progress. -- Kirk Wallace http://www.wallacecompany.com/machine_shop/ http://www.wallacecompany.com/E45/index.html California, USA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Register Now for Creativity and Technology (CaT), June 3rd, NYC.
