If you open up the Show HAL Configuration window then add your output pins to a 
watch 
window you can see if EMC is changing the state of a pin. You can also set a 
pin that is not 
being used with hal command. In the SHOW window if a pin is connected it will 
show up like 
this "parport.0.pin-01-out <== estop out". The "<== estop out" is the signal 
that the pin is 
connected to. To unlink a pin use "unlinkp parport.0.pin-01-out" in the Test 
HAL command 
box. Then to set the pin on use "setp parport.0.pin-01-out 1" and 0 for off.
