Thanks again folks - especially Dewey whose suggestions have 
enabled me to get a working config. It does have a slight 
downside in that the A and B axes are still shown in the 
AXIS window position figures and have to be homed but this 
is only a minor thing and maybe a bit more intensive reading 
in the AXIS manuals will find a solution to streamline 
things ( although I think not..)
With a bit more reading I did find that there is a keyboard 
shortcut for the B and C axes - 4 and 5 but I can't see why 
b and c would not have been better and less obscure....
