I think I found a/the solution for slow speed issues on my G540 and  
EMC.  The system now works smoothly (at least as far as I tested)  
about 2ipm to 60ipm.

I'm not sure if it's just my machine, my system or me (I've  
contributed to my own share of difficulties).. but .. Setting the Step  
Space and Duration to 2000 did the trick.  The latency on my system is  
around 12000.. I'm not sure if this is a contributing factor.  The  
Gecko documentation says that the timing should be 2uS (200 ns)

I tried both selecting the G540 in the pulldown menu for the  
controller in the Stepconf wizard as well as loading the G540.stepconf  
file both contained the same 1000 ns setting for the step timing and  
neither option worked *for my system* with either an inverted step  
signal or non-inverted.

I still need to adjust the trim pots but first I need to finish the  
rest of the build.
