Well, I put a newly formatted hard drive in my HNC system, downloaded the latest EMC2, burned a CD, booted the CD, installed, updated, copied my old xorg.config and emc2/config/HNC files to the new install, Synapic'd em2_dev, comp --installed turret.comp, ran EMC2, eh voila, everything worked beautifully.
