Hi Martin,
We have retrofitted Mach Control onto two of the Cardinal Mills.

We removed the I/O board and Processor board and made our own Breakout board
that drove the Stepper drivers via the ribbon cable.

We included a small 3 Ph drive and replaced the belt drive with a spindle
drive direct onto and above the spindle.

It made a 21st century machine out of a 1992 unit.

If you e-mail me direct I will have some photos of the end product.

In retrospect I would use something like a Smooth Stepper and one of the
spindle Pulse to analogue units available these days.

The big concern initially was could we use the Stepper Drive's. The answer
is yes and in fact we were impressed with the drive board and had no trouble
getting them to function in the new configuration.

Regards

Graham

Subject: [Emc-users] Sent e-mail to Cardinal Eng.

Good evening group.
Someone on here had mentioned that my little mill was from Cardinal Eng, and
it is. So just out of curiousity I did a google search and found Cardinal
Eng. And just for kicks I called the number just a few minutes ago and heard
Roland's voice on the answering machine. So I left a message and also sent
an e-mail.
It will be interesting to talk to him and see what his take is on converting
this mini mill over. I was looking at a conversion they were working on in
2005. And they were using EMC for the conversion. That is the most recent
posting on their web site.
www.cardinaleng.com
That's all I got.
Martin
