I used my office PC, which is a non-EMC2 Ubuntu 8.04 machine.
Downloaded:
http://www.linuxcnc.org/hardy/ubuntu-8.04-desktop-emc2-aj13-i386.iso

to my desktop. Then right clicked on the icon
(ubuntu-8.04-desktop-emc2-aj13-i386.iso) and selected "Write to
Disc...". I don't recall installing a CD burning program, so it must
call a built in program. I accept the defaults and select "Write". It
apparently knows that I want to make a bootable disk using the .iso
image rather than making a duplicate of the original which would make a
disk with an .iso file on it.

With Nero, I think you need to tell it you want to make a bootable disk
from an .iso image. If you have made a disk already, look at the
directory of that disk. If it only has an .iso file, it won't boot or
install EMC2. It should have a number of sub-directories and files.

It seems to me that I have a lot more success using a DVD burner to make
the disks and also to install EMC2 to the CNC PC.
