Errors is a good sign, often pyvcp problems (referring to non-existent pins or signals) results in a quiet failure to boot and no hint why. If you start EMC from the command line then you often see more information on what has gone wrong. (you can probably just type "emc" in a terminal window) What is the error you are seeing?
