The RTAI kernel often performs very badly when virtualized, whereas the normal Ubuntu kernel is fine.
You may want to try doing a stock install of Ubuntu 8.04, then download the install script here: <http://linuxcnc.org/hardy/emc2-install-sim.sh>. You install the same way as using emc2-install, as described here (just use emc2-install-sim.sh instead of emc2-install.sh): <http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?Installing_EMC2#On_Ubuntu_8_04_using_precompiled_EMC2_packages> That should get you something that still works fine over a networked NML connection, but without the (potential) performance problems of a virtualized realtime kernel - Steve ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Download Intel® Parallel Studio Eval Try the new software tools for yourself.
