In this particular setup, I use a spare hardware encoder counter channel, and digital inputs for the switches. I'm not clear whether you want a virtual control panel or a physical pendant control, mine is the latter. A button in series with the common of the axis selector switch has to be pressed to enable jogging with the dial.
