Sorry; I intended to include the BIOS is;
"Phoenix-Award workstation BIOS v6.00PG"
 copyright 1984-2003.
 Part of my brain goes dead after 3:00 AM.

2. the "Applied Graphics Products Jeronimo J2/N" video card is probably

My xorg.conf is as follows:
Section "Device"
    Identifier    "Configured Video Device"
    Boardname    "vesa"
    Busid        "PCI:0:10:0"
    Driver        "vesa"
    Screen    0

I looked through the discussion and had the same problem the newbie did.
I almost remember manually booting UNIX with arguments 30 years ago,
but I don't have a clue how to do it with the self starting LINUX of today.
Can you give me a kick start? (With an example please)

The US Congress and Senate have generally ruled "The Schultz defense"
unacceptable during their investigations. But in some technical areas
I can use it quite legally. The maze of video options on PCs is one such
area.

In summary; I believe my old video cards can be propped up to have
passable latency for now. I also believe I will have the same problem
again when I need to update ubuntu and/or EMC2.

To avid this prolonged agony I would like to install simple Video cards
that do the job for the foreseeable future With EMC2 and my processors.
Anyone who could make an informing suggestion for such a card;
my heartfelt
      Thanks
          Don.

Start uncovering the many advantages of virtual appliances
and start using them to simplify application deployment and
accelerate your shift to cloud computing.
