Yup, same here.  My latest replacement PC cost my $179 versus ~$500 for 
the VME chassis on Fleabay, and the associated card costs.  But, in 
trying to make the software as accessible as possible, in a way I'm glad 
they didn't completely rule out VME in the beginning, and concentrated 
on making it work best in  POSIX environment.
