Peter, you sound like you have some direct experience with this.

I need to talk to six encoders (X, Y, Z, spindle, 4th/rotary axis, and
hopefully I will put a servo motor on the knee).

So it is not just slow I/O.

Do you happen to know a PCI card that you can recommend?
