Got back to it this pm and with a bit of help on linux talk and methods 
I was able to edit the /ect/default/grub file as recommended and updated 
grub, rebooted and got emc2 up and running.

You too Mike!!!  command line to emacs ThePath was the way to go.  The 
rest of the edit happened in the GUI but with root privileges so the 
save worked.
