Rumors of the death of the PCI slot are even more exaggerated than the rumors of the death of the parallel port, in my opinion. I think many people get the mistaken idea that EMC users depend on the existence of the parallel port. Whether or not it's becoming extinct, this is not true. Some configurations do require it, and PCI parallel ports are available for these configurations even if they become hard to find on motherboards. They have not, yet. Newegg (first vendor I checked) has over 50 (!) options if you want to buy a PCI parallel port. They start at $9.99.
