If it is a matter of electrical interference, could I not use shielding
and differential drivers? If the feature is already in the firmware, is
there a chance I could get the information that would allow me to play
with it? An absolute encoder would be a big plus for my project and the
magnetic sensor I have, should be ideal.

In the mean time, I'll pursue the quadrature solution.
