He must have a steel QCTP. > http://mikesworkshop.weebly.com/tangential-tool-holder.html > This latter version would I think, lend itself to being built on my mill, as I have a tilting vise to do the 12 degree angles with. But I'll use some 1/2" thick stock, which should fit the square toolholder by the time those angles have been cut. Its much more rigid than the QC holder, which opens up the dovetail and drops the bit into the work piece at least 10 times per job. ALU is a shit material for a QC even if it is pretty. This one needs a base preload, by chucking it up in the 4 jaw of the lathe, and hollowing out the base about 15 thou so when the center bolt is tightened, it sits solidly on the compound. Use only a carbide bit, its hard anodized & a normal tool steel bit just bounces and burns up. > There are others, Google can sometimes be your friend. Yep, just gotta do it. I hadn't given it enough thought to spell tangential that way. Coupled with my being distracted with a bit of white ash chip in my right eye from the back blast of my router while cutting a long dovetail groove in the end of a table top so I could cover the raw end grain with a dovetailed in place end cap. Its blind, and is only glued for the first inch at the front end, that way the table top can adjust as the humidity changes by sliding on the end caps dovetail. Sort of a Green & Green idea without the ebony breadboard. ;-) Thanks Martin -- Cheers, Gene "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
