Guys... Thanks for all of the tips and suggestions regarding the use of EMC2 with a servo hydraulic system.
I need to get an SSI encoder and try some things out. Jon, The machine already has Rexroth amplifier cards for the valves that have the dither function built in. They accept +/- 10 volt analog signals to shift the valve. The SSI encoders used on this machine is are similar to Baluff linear encoders - in fact it may be a Baluff sensor. It is buried in the press. You actually have to climb into the press to see the sensor. (This is a big machine). It is like this unit, if it is not exactly this unit. http://www.balluff.com/Balluff/Website/Script/Trackers/elqNow/elqRedir.htm?ref=http://www.balluff.com/Balluff/Documents/manuals/836063_E_0511.pdf The SSI encoder protocol is out in the public domain. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synchronous_Serial_Interface The code is either a binary or gray code absolute position. The interface is about as simple as a serial interface can be.
