Gentle persons:

Mark's phrase "so I do not repeat childish mistakes" is the reason I 
subscribe to lists like this one, where people who get things done don't 
withhold their life lessons just so someone else has to suffer (which a 
particularly nasty form of 'Schaden Freude', I think).

When I was young, I was struck by one of Benjamin Franklin's writings in 
his "Poor Richard's Almanac." He said "experience is an expensive 
teacher, but fools will have no other."

More recently, I saw an e-signature that said "Learn from the mistakes 
of others, life is too short to make them all yourself."
