the exact message is, "Can't issue MDI command when not homed." AXIS EMC2.4.6 on Ubuntu 8.04. the homing sequence is axis2=0, axis0=1, axis1=2. axis3 is not included in the home sequence and has no pins assigned to homing switch in the hal ini. the configuration is a mill xyza millimeter.

For example, I just searched the source code base for each the messages you have cited---"can't do anything without homing" and "can't do mdi command without home"---and I don't find them. If you are paraphrasing the messages could you please give an exact message so I can determine where in the code it is generated? There are lots of questions in my mind about the specifics of your CNC machine tool and the emc2 configuration you chose/created for it, but I'll stick to the messages.
