He had his own way to deal with Gordian knots. He had his own language for dealing with them too, which is how at a tender age I learned a lot of things my mother never told me:-) [Think Ralphie's dad battling with the furnace or changing the flat tire in the movie "A Christmas Story".] To his credit, he learned about hydraulic systems as a young mechanic in the Army Air Corps during WWII and created power-assists for everything within reach on his farm in the following years, which is how I caught an urge to tinker.
