I'm looking forward to answers to those questions myself :-). Theoretically the AS5311 encoders have 2um resolution. I am going to be doing some repeatability testing tomorrow with an LVDT to try to verify the encoder performance. Force measurement is a little bit tricky, as driving it to stall causes an instant following error. I just need to set up a static test with appropriate DC currents in the coils and a load cell pushed up against the forcer. My FEMM simulations predict something on the order of 50N force with 2A of current. I'm having fun getting it going.

That is really cool, Ralph! I would love to hear more details about your project. I have a bunch of questions like: what sort of resolution can you achieve, how much force does it produce, etc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond.
