Is it truly a 486 architecture?  The Intel 486 had a different memory 
architecture, most
importantly the memory page size is different from later processors.  I 
tried to run
the original EMC in 1997 on a 486 and ran into this problem.

All LinuxCNC real time modules are linked against the kernel symbol 
table, and can
only be installed on the same kernel they were compiled against.
