Sound like you need a plate with a grid of threaded holes, and a > bunch of (for the lack of a better descriptive term) standoffs. All > standoffs would have the bottom threaded to screw into the plate, but > with a flat at the edge of the threads for an accurate surface > reference. This is called a subplate and I consider them so important that I built one before z axis was finioshed. If you ream the top of the threaded hole you caqn insert doewel pins for accurate fixturing I do believe every mill should have one, far better than t slots
