The thing that I have established is that as long as you use a 'dumb' monitor 
in 
the vga port then the VESA driver fires up OK and you get a clean 1024by768 
screen. If you happen to have a high res monitor ( my main system uses 
1920x1200 
monitors ) then Linux tries to load a different driver and this is where things 
got screwed up. Disconnecting the 'data' wires sorted out my problems, but I'm 
still not going to use the Intel boards on the CNC systems as they refuse to 
install XP, the asrock ones are much tidier and provided a clean dual boot 
between Mach3-XP and LinuxCNC :)

The new intel boards need W7 so I'll recycle them on sites that already have 
site licences for W7 :)
