No, the realtime kernel patch that is used with LinuxCNC has not yet 
been ported to the kernel that is used with 12.04.

Stick with 10.04 for now.   10.04 has been extremely stable.

"Old" is relative in computer time.  12.04 was released 4 months ago and 
will be supported for 5 years.   10.04 was released 2 years and 4 months 
ago and will be officially supported until 4/2013 according to this:

However, compare this with Windows XP...  how long has that been 
around??   I'm still using that also.  :-)

If you are running a production machine with LinuxCNC, you really want 
to avoid the "bleeding edge" of technology.  ;-)
