I started (but didn't finish) a dedicated laser-raster setup. The idea was a simple Glade userspace UI to load image files and process them into a form suitable for the laser, the a realtime component that simply creates a raster with specified bottom-left and top-right corners, outputting positions for motors and laser intensity until told to stop, or finished. No G-code, no motion planner. Just Glade and HAL.
