Robert Nelson has a downloadable kernel image plus instructions on how 
to configure
it and install it on the various Beagle-X systems.  I had been using a 
vary old kernel
set up by  Matt Shaver, and the latest Beagle Board would not run it.  I 
was able to
set up Mr. Nelson's kernel in an afternoon, and it works quite well.  
You should be
able to find it from the beagleboard.org site.
