MDI, as typed, is a simplified gcode, done one step at a time. There is nothing stopping you from running your favorite text editor, and putting exactly the same commands into a text file, line by line. I suspect you have not read much if any of the stuff on gcode itself. If you have not been there, the <wiki.linuxcnc.org> site has very complete documentation, viewable as html in a web browser, or as pdf's you can download and print if you like hard copy. Among other things, gcode gives you the ability to use conditional loops and the like, along with subroutines.
