Why couldn't it be a 17" LeBlond Regal roundhead trainer? ;P I'm in need of the
brass nut, bushing and dial for the compound slide.

If this old beast was a South Bend I could have had it put together, running
and (most important) SOLD ages ago to fund further acquisition of more lathes.
The biggest holdup is I cannot find anyone able to put an 8 tpi square thread
hole sideways through a 1.25" diameter brass bar. #@%@%#% you LeBlond for not
using ACME! As hard as parts are to get, where's the thriving LeBlond
aftermarket?

I'm thinking of pressure casting some super strong urethane around the screw
then turning it down to plug into the 1" hole in the compound slide base.

Then there's LeBlond's screwball threaded spindle sizes, almost none of which
were made to any sort of industry standard. 2-7/8 x 5 on the 17", almost every
swing diameter used a different diameter threaded spindle. I picked up an L00
backplate for $50 which has a small enough hole to be bored out and threaded to
that size while having enough iron around for strength. I could make an L0
adapter to screw on, would solve the problem of fitting chucks.

A 17x78" lathe made in 1944 would be an awesome (in the original meaning, not
the "Awesome! Dude!" one) CNC project but I want to get the huge thing out of
my shop.

Word to the wise, unless you own a junkyard full of many sizes of LeBlond
lathes or live somewhere you can't kick a clod of dirt without finding an old
LeBlond, don't ever buy a LeBlond lathe that doesn't have 100% of its parts! Or
at least parts that aren't easily replicated... been contemplating a 13"
roundhead that looks like its only problem is a broken leadscrew bracket.
*should* be easy to make from a piece of bar stock.
