That, to this ancient hand, is a new man page, and one I never thought to
look at. I did ask that question about putting it in the interfaces file,
on the ubuntu list, and there was no response. So much for technical
lists. The best they could do was to tell me to restore everything and it
should then Just Work(TM).

The real magic twanger is to ignore the original postcard sized screen and
instead of clicking on the install now button there, take the "try it out"
path. Then as it fully boots from the optical media (go make coffee, it
takes a while) there you can properly adjust things so networking works,
then you can click on the install icon on that screen and everything does
Just Work(TM).

But it took a side comment by somebody else on the list to get me to skip
the first screen. It can't be made to work without hand carving the whole
setup and then doing a chattr +i on the resolv.conf file else your carvings
in the sand will be destroyed at the next bootup. I went through that
cycle 3 times before the lights came on, I must be getting slower in my
dotage. But, at 78, with a long since expired warranty, I can accept a
certain amount of that. Its been a great ride so far. Made more pleasant
over the last decade+ by the helpful folks on this list as I'm a firm
believer in giving credit where credit is due.

Cheers, Gene
