Greetings all; I just got back from Staples, where I picked up off the shelf, a microsoft LifeCam that claimed to do true hidef, marked $99 on the shelf, rang up for $40.29 at the register.
On getting it home and the packaging demolished, I plugged it into a usb hub and lo, and behold even hotplug or whatever interrogated it and even created a /dev/ucvideo device. Some vague promise that we might have a linux driver for it. But kaffiene didn't see it. So out of idle curiosity, I fired up cheese, which promptly gave me a pix of my bedraggled face in glorious hidef full screen on a 23" Del S2340M monitor! But cheese does not have a crossed hairs effect. Many others, but not a set of crosshairs. Looking in /usr/share/cheese/effects, it appears they are all .png files. Presumably with varying degrees of transparent backgrounds. But how would I get the linkage setup such that cheese could use the effect from its own effects menu if I was to make that in gimp & save it as a .png? Any clues from somebody that has actually done it? Cheers, Gene -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
