Ah, then we're not talking about a multipoint RS485 bus, with
contention avoidance being a big issue.

What I'd first check is whether the motor driver's RS485 port is full or
half duplex, i.e. is it four-wire, with Tx and Rx separated, or
two-wire, with Tx and Rx time-shared.

Then I'd confirm the connector pinouts, although it's no big deal to
wire up a custom cable for your motor driver configuration.

If the connection is half-duplex, then enabling of Tx needs to be
managed, which would be tricky over usb. (Probably not the case.)

Once these questions are settled, I'd just use the Chinese cheapo
interface. It should work like a bought one.
