On Nema34 motors I usually use 10mm 6082 plate. I then slot the bottom 
of the motor mounting holes about 5mm deep in order to hold the nuts 
(M5) while you tighten from the top. If the motor is direct coupled I 
dont slot the motor hole but if it is belt driven I do so that you can 
tension the belt after assembly.
