I think the real big advantage is that a second person would be developing it. It is a huge undertaking to keep current. After the user picks 5i25 in PNCconf, it tailors it's self to the 5i25, so I'm not sure how a separate program would help that much. One big pain, is the fact the user has to copy files in to folders using sudo, just so PNCconf can see the 5i25. This could be fixed with the firmware repo.
