I finally gave up on using the BBB to write the SD card. I created a larger virtual drive on my VirtualBox Ubuntu and I got a new SD card reader/writer that works with my Mac. I was able to run the setup_sdcard.sh script under Ubuntu on my Mac and create the SD card for Debian Wheezy. My BBB now boots from the new SD card. Yea!
