Despite the weather, my camera is mounted and just about aligned.

Next, after some goop has cured and the mount is stable, I assume the next
step is to drill the smallest hole I can, about a #76, home the machine as
I drill the hole slowly enough the bit doesn't walk, then move it so the
camera can see the hole and using the crop function, zero it on the center
of that hole, at which point the dro readings are the offset between the
centerline of the spindle and the crosshairs.

So, the next question is, what file do I put that offset pair into, and
what buttons do I click to tell LinuxCNC to reference those offsets when
setting up to "etch" the top of a board?

Do also need to drill a 2nd hole and similarly record its location, but
against the first set of data so as to facilitate the auto correction of
any rotation of the workpiece about the Z axis?

Thats enough for one turkey day's contemplations. ;-)

I hope you all have an enjoyable day tomorrow with family & friends to talk
and laugh with, while seriously lightening the load on your dining room
table.

Its white outside, but not all that deep, or too cold, nothing my WV
Cadillac's can't handle.

Cheers, Gene
