That old Gorton is OLD. The only thing electric on it is the spindle motor. ;-) Those all hydraulic True-Trace systems could move at the blistering speed of up to 13 inches per minute. It looks like this one http://cottenauctions.com/CentralDynamics/bidspotgallery/12.jpg It's part of a package deal that includes a couple of late 80's CNC Bridgeports (one halfway converted to manual but has all the original parts), a punch press, some old Taiwan made lathe, a bunch of tooling, a harbor freight brake/roll combo and various other items of various utility. The only part of it I'm really interested in are the BPs, but I'd hate to scrap such a massive and sturdy hunk of iron that Gorton is. One way I've thought of to CNC its hydraulics is to parallel cylinders of the same stroke and volume and use constant volume pumps driven by servos between them. Pump fluid between the closed ends of the two cylinders and the fluid on the piston ends flows freely back and forth. Constant volume on both ends with a direct relationship between cylinder movement and pump rotation. Unless there's a way to pump fluid from one end of a cylinder to the other while maintaining precise position control? Probably would be easier and cheaper to fabricate ballscrew mounts to replace the cylinders. That would also get rid of the long cylinder out the left end of the table. The knee ram has a hollow shaft which the manual screw threads into. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rapidly troubleshoot problems before they affect your business.
