Done right, they aren't that noisy. A well dressed wheel, turning within 5% of its rated max speed, is surprisingly quiet. Once the fire is going, you can hear the rumble of the fire over the saw IF the saw is a decent one. It resembles the rumble of one of those fan-jet k2 heaters but 25 db quieter. > Hearing protection is recommended.
