if you mean use the existng hand down feed with a stepper that has not
worked well for me and backlash rears its head and my mill spindle weighs a
hundred pounds . it is most noticable when milling hard parts and will push
up and leave a very rough surface , by all means convert it to a screw,
also the rack and pinion lack enough gear ratio to hold position even with
1600 oz steppers . ymmv
