Indeed, is a Quick Turn 20 but the control is a T1 instead of the T2 you
have. I don't really know if there are big differences between them.

Why are you planning to replace the original drives? Because Robert from
this list had a machining center with the same drives as my Mazak (Meldas
DC TR41A or TR31A I don't remember well). They are feeded by an analog
voltage, possibly +/- 10 volts, so the only thing to keep would be the
tachos on the motors to feed the drives. Then the resolvers or new encoders
can close the position loop within LinuxCNC. I ask you this because I'm
planning a retrofit too and I would like to keep the original servo drives,
but may be your QT20 has different drives and you want to replace them.

We replaced the spindle VFD a few months ago for a Yaskawa one because the
original Fanuc wouldn't work anymore for some reason, and we suspect that
it was a problem on the control board of the spindle drive wich is almost
the same price of the entire Yaskawa drive.

Here's a pic of the new drive installed: http://i.imgur.com/qhzzxmt.jpg

The old fanuc demaned all the space you see there. This one is occupying
1/5 of the original drive. I guess your lathe has a similar cabinet and
drive.
