I have Andy, and there is an 18" length of 1/2" A2 in the iron pile right now. I'd assume the std procedure would be to cut a couple chip gullets in it with the mill, then chuck and true it on the lathe. I can do the g2 in the xz mode easy enough, but can I automate the heel clearance on the lathe, modulating the z axis 2x a revolution? Since that would need to override the G2 z moves I think that rules out using a G2, and demands it be worked out in math incrementally. I have no experience, and likely not the fire tools to harden it, but I did do a hole plug socket in some cherry 3 or 4 years ago that worked well, used a piece of cold roll in that case with a pilot nose. But I didn't expect to have to use it more than 6 times. I'd need it to last thru contouring the tops of some ebony plugs, about 50 of them. I have some business to attend to before I start in the shop today, but I'll certainly cut a bit of code to see if its practical. Sometimes I need a good goosing to get me going. Can't be oldtimers can it? ;-) Cheers, Gene Heskett -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
