That is something I can no longer claim. Disks are collapsing & pinching
nerves. And that makes for strange pains in places that have no excuse
to hurt.

No doubt. I looked at a couple on fleabay tonight, but they looked like
starter kits, too much stuff missing that might take another 2 grand to
round up.

Yes, thats a problem with this one, you are either turning 800 revs and
throwing swarf thats visible in low light, or backing down to 100 revs
or less to stop the chatter. I started tapping the nut at the back of
the spindle about 10 degrees at a time, but by the time I had begun to
get it alleviated, the spindle bearings were complaining. So I loosened
it a turn, then took a piece of 3/4" 1/8" thick alu angle and slapped
the back end with a 16oz hammer to slip the spindle thru the bearings,
which reduced the noise. But with a 5/8" rod chucked, and a dial on
the back of the spindle, I can't make it move even a .0001" on the dial
when it was loose, so the tension is now up to where the bearings are
about to complain again.

And at my age, thats a balancing act, will I get it tuned up and doing
what I want it to do before I fall over? OTOH, it will never get done
if I don't start on it.

But what about this near problem? Who wrote it? They might have the
obvious answer, unforch, nobody has put their names on any of this
stuff...

Thanks Jon
